The Kenya Air Force is to keep its de Havilland Canada DHC-5 Buffalo transports in service until 2005. The service, which has eight of the aircraft, had been looking at replacing them with Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules. Brig S Muttai, deputy commander of the air force says, however, that the Hercules "-can't touch the Buffalo on the rough strips that we use". The air force gave its first public flying display for many years at the recent Nairobi air show, demonstrating four of its 11 Shorts Tucanos, a Buffalo and two of its nine Northrop Grumman F-5s.
