Business Aviation services provider Jet Aviation was in a celebratory mood at the show yesterday as it marked the opening of its new fixed based operation at the shared terminal at Dubai South’s Al Maktoum International airport (DWC).
The upmarket facility – a joint venture between Jet Aviation and Al Mulla Business Group – was revealed at a grand opening event, where the partners were keen to stress their long-term commitment to customers in Dubai and throughout the Middle East market.
Jet Aviation will continue to operate from its base at Dubai International (DXB), where it has been providing MRO, aircraft and passenger handling since 2005.
The General Dynamics subsidiary is also planning to offer line maintenance at its Dubai South FBO.
“As business aviation traffic is increasingly channelled through DWC, the upscale 600m2 (6,460ft2) FBO in the shared VIP terminal adds considerable capacity to meet customer requirements now and into the future,” says Jet Aviation.
The new state-of-the-art facility features three customer lounges, a conference room, crew lounge and operations centre, two prayer rooms and shower facilities.
Meanwhile, Jet Aviation is gearing up to break ground on a new hangar at its facility in Basle, Switzerland to meet the increased demand for widebody airliner completions and refurbishments. The event will be marked at a dedicated ceremony on 17 November, and the 8,700m2 hangar should be fully operational at the end of 2018.
Neil Boyle, Jet Aviation's senior vice-president and general manager in Basle, says the company has "a long history" of handling major modifications and completions, with the first example – a VIP-outfitted airliner – delivered to a Middle East-based customer in 1978. "Since then, we have been building a name in the region for service excellence and uncompromising standards in craftsmanship," he says.
The company is capable of outfitting jets as large as an Airbus A380 and has already completed numerous airliners, including ACJ319s, ACJ320s, ACJ330s and ACJ340s and Boeing BBJ 737s, 747s, 757s and 767s.
