BUSINESS EXPRESS Airlines has announced a major expansion which includes a 100% increase in gate and ramp space at primary hub Logan Airport, Boston.

The airline has leased space at six gates from Massport, the airport's governing agency, allowing it to operate more than 80% of its 158 daily departures from the airport concourse rather than from a remote site.

Business Express marketing director Warren Wilkinson says that the company sees the acquisition of new gates as a major part of a re-structuring process, under way since mid-1994. The company has set up new headquarters in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Wilkinson confirms that the airline has no plans to purchase more than the three Avro RJ70 now in service, although it has a further nine on order. "We will buy more RJs if our situation changes, but we don't see that happening in 1995," says Wilkinson. Business Express, a Delta Connection partner and Northwest affiliate, also operates 37 Saab 340s and 27 Raytheon Beech 1900s.
