BERLIN The European Commission has approved the financing plan for Germany's new capital airport, Berlin Brandenburg, to be built on the Schonefeld airport site and replace Tegel and Tempelhof, the historic downtown airport that closed last October after 85 years that included a pivotal role in the 1948-9 Berlin Airlift. Templehof's closure was marked by historic flights, including one of Air Service Berlin's Rosinenbomber Douglas DC-3 (pictured).

PILOTS British Airways has given 500 senior pilots up to the end of the month to respond to its offer of voluntary redundancy as it looks to eliminate 100 pilot positions across its fleet. According to the British Airline Pilots Association, 120 BA pilots have applied for the deal. Meanwhile, at Delta Air Lines pilots are being offered a severance payment, medical benefits for a limited period of time and retiree travel benefits as incentives to retire.
