CARGOLUX The Luxembourg-based freight carrier is preparing for a $200 million new shares issue following an ownership restructuring that gives Luxair a majority shareholding, releases the 33.7% stake held in limbo by the defunct Swissair Group and paves the way for a long-term strategic partnership. Cargolux will use the proceeds of the recapitalisation partly to renew its fleet. The company is a launch customer for the Boeing 747-8 freighter.

Bad Week

Vietjet

VIETJET The Vietnamese start-up carrier has delayed its first commercial flight for the third time because of weak domestic travel demand. It now has up to May 2010 to begin its first flight or, according to local reports, risk losing its licence to operate. VietJet was supposed to begin operations in 2008 on domestic routes with leased Boeing 737-700s. A spokesman notes: "It is a difficult time for the airline industry and passenger demand is still very low."
