AIR LEASE International Lease Finance founder Steven Udvar-Hazy's new outfit firmed up an order for 54 Boeing 737-800s announced at the Farnborough air show in July - and added six more aircraft. Deliveries run from next year up to 2017. At the show, Air Lease also ordered 51 Airbus A320s, 10 ATR 72-600s and signed a memorandum of understanding for 10 Embraer 190s. Hazy (pictured) intends to build a 200-aircraft portfolio within three years.

Bad week

CURRENCY International Monetary Fund managing director Dominique Strauss-Kahn (pictured) is hoping big economies do not try to spur growth by fighting an exchange rate war, but signs are not good. The USA is ready to print money and Washington may happily watch the dollar fall if China does not let the yuan rise. Japan could be joining in with a bid to push down the yen. The European Central Bank may be forced to join the battle, or risk seeing the euro soar.
