Good Week

Aero Mechanical Industries,
which is benefiting from a $500,000 investment from New Mexico Community Capital, a venture capital fund that seeks economic development as well as financial returns. Chief executive and founder Jim Cooper says the Rio Rancho-based maintenance, repair and overhaul company will use the funds to buy new equipment, pay off debts and expand its services. It is also adding to its 50-strong staff by recruiting 10 employees in the next month.

Eurofly,
which has been forced to drop its all-business class Airbus A319 flights between Milan and New York following heavy losses. The service, which started in May 2006 linking Milan Malpensa with New York Kennedy after the carrier failed to obtain a licence to operate from Milan Linate, which is closer to the city, has lost around €8 million ($10.4 million). Eurofly is suspending loss-making activities where no turnaround is envisaged in the next two years.

Bad week

"It is a poison for Airbus if we allow the nationalities of our industrial set-up to be raised again. We have to motivate people to consider that Airbus is one company."

Airbus president and chief executive Louis Gallois
