Good Week

Lockheed Martin, after Standard & Poor’s (S&P) raised its outlook from stable to positive. Profits at Lockheed Martin, rated by S&P as “BBB-plus” are expected to continue improving as the company turns around space launch vehicle and commercial satellite programmes, S&P says. Lockheed’s healthy orderbooks also contributed to the change in outlook and increases in its civil business should offset the expected slowdown of growth in US defence budget spending.

Hexcel, whose aerospace revenues are set to take a hit as Airbus A380 delays slow growth. While others, like Safran’s chief executive Jean-Paul Bechat, have shrugged off the delays, claiming the breathing space will be a relief to suppliers, Hexcel forecasts “low single-digit” growth across its business this year, compared with the 10% initially projected. While growth in other programmes could offset the damage, chief executive David Berges describes the A380 delay as a “disappointment”.
