The CASA C-295 technical demonstrator has undergone 350h of flying trials since its first flight on 28 November, 1997. A second aircraft joined the programme late last year. The 23t maximum take-off weight aircraft, based on the smaller CN-235, is likely to rival the Lockheed Martin/Alenia C-27J in the light transport market. The aircraft is expected to be at the Paris air show in June. Certification is due in November. The Spanish air force may be the first customer.
