CAE ELECTRONICS HAS received a $54 million contract to upgrade seven Panavia Tornado full-mission simulators for the German air force and navy. The work will be performed by CAE's German subsidiary.
The upgrade includes new computers, instructor consoles and mission-debrief stations, and real-time radar simulation.
Upgraded simulators will be operational by the end of 1999. CAE had earlier completed a testbed for a Tornado simulator, incorporating its helmet-mounted visual display, in a bid to increase fidelity for low-level training, but Germany elected not to proceed with this upgrade.
