CAE has won a string of new contracts worth C$71 million ($66 million) and potentially rising to C$105 million, after a fiscal first quarter in which revenue rose by 9% over the corresponding quarter of 2007, to C$392.1 million, and net earnings rose by 19%, to C$46.1 million.

The Canadian simulation and training company has been selected by its home nation's Department of National Defence to lead an effort to provide an "integrated information and learning environment" that would give the air force a common operating platform for training.

In another domestic win, CAE was contracted by L-3 MAS, a Canadian subsidiary of L-3 Communications, to provide avionics software upgrades, integrated logistics support and data management services for the Canadian Forces Boeing CF-18s.

European business has been boosted by a contract from Eurofighter Simulation Systems to update and deliver enhanced synthetic environment software for full-mission simulators and cockpit trainers as part of the Eurofighter Aircrew Synthetic Training Aids programme.

Meanwhile, CAE USA has been contracted by the US Navy to provide maintenance services on aircrew training devices at three sites in Japan, and to design and manufacture an additional Sikorsky MH-60R tactical operational flight trainer. It will also provide contract aircrew training and courseware development services for the US Air Force's Fairchild A-10 and Eurocopter EC130 training programme, under a five-year subcontracting arrangement with C2 Technologies.
