Delta Air Lines subsidiary Comair has been selected as the first beneficiary of a new Canadian government loan programme designed to stimulate aerospace sales, and will receive an unspecified loan to buy 10 regional jets from Bombardier Aerospace.

Delta's regional affiliates are Bombardier's biggest customers, with 329 CRJ regional jets on order or in service. The close relationship between Bombardier and the Canadian government has come under heavy criticism from opposition parties and government critics, who question why the Comair loan is going through the Canada Account, which is designed to handle loans too risky for Export Development, Canada's corporate account.
