Quebecois companies Amphitech International and Air Data have joined forces on the creation of the Oasys helicopter radar.

Air Data has taken on design responsibility for the control and display panels for Oasys, launched by Amphitech at Farnborough last year.

Oasys allows low-flying helicopters to see obstacles as small as transmission lines from up to two kilometres, even in extreme weather conditions.

Due to be certificated before the end of the year, it is expected to make a significant contribution to helicopter flight safety, particularly among the emergency services, search-and-rescue authorities and city shuttle operators.

Production of Oasys is expected to grow to 150 units per year in 2004.
