The US Federal Aviation Administration is requiring that all US airliners over 3,400kg (7,500lb) and with at least one flight attendant are equipped with automated external defibrillators used to treat cardiac arrest and enhanced medical kits within three years. Nine US carriers have already installed the equipment voluntarily.
