American, Continental and Delta Air Lines have taken a page from the book of fare experimentation opened by America West Airlines. They are trying business fare schemes under which some unpopular requirements, such the Saturday-night stay, are eliminated and fares are being lowered by 20- 40% on selected routes. JP Morgan's Jamie Baker sees the moves as an attempt to regain some business travellers from the low-fare carriers and possibly to make up in volume the decrease in margins.
