Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways has become the launch customer for Boeing's 747-400 Special Freighter programme, with an agreement to have up to 12 passenger aircraft converted to freighters. Cathay has committed to having six 747-400s converted into freighters, with options on another six. The first is expected to be completed in December 2005 and the next five by 2007.
