The slogan "Arrive in Better Shape" was for many years the marketing catch phrase of Cathay Pacific Airways before it switched to the politically more astute sales banner "The Heart of Asia."

This Hong Kong flag carrier's former motto would appear to be alive and kicking today, with the 20 February debut of Asia's first airport spa.

The new Elemis Day Spa is the latest addition to Cathay's 4,500m of expansive business and first class lounges at Hong Kong's ultra-modern airtropolis.

"It's a prime location for us as we can cater to busy travellers' needs - be it a simplistic back massage or a revitalising aromatherapy facial," says Lucy Whittaker, director of spa operator the Beautiful Skin Centre.

Located on the sixth-floor, The Wing, Cathay's marble appointed lounge complex, the Elemis Day Spa comprises three different therapeutic colour-coded treatment rooms. The spa can be pre-booked when making ticket reservations, but is also open to walk-in air travellers and only closes its doors after the final Cathay departure of the day.

A comprehensive menu of his and her services is available, ranging from a folical stimulating 'oriental scalp recovery treatment,' down to a foot rub and pedicure. Many of the services on offer are geared to business men or women seeking rejuvenation before that big meeting.

Whittaker recommends: "In preparation for an overnight, a relaxing and de-stressing camomile and lavender massage is the perfect aperitif to a few hours' sleep." Alternatively for the aerospace executive "flying to Singapore for a crucial meeting, he might be prescribed a 45min invigorating shiatsu-based massage with lemon lime and juniper oils to energise the mind."
