Investigators are looking into an incident in which a Cebu Pacific Airbus A320 apparently struck trees while landing at Sibulan airport in the Philippines.

The four-year old aircraft (RP-C3237) was being visually inspected by the crew at the airport, situated in Dumaguete, when damage to its landing-gear was discovered.

French investigation authority BEA, citing counterparts in the Philippines, says “branches and leaves” were found in the starboard main-gear assembly.

It adds that the assembly was also found to be leaking hydraulic fluid.

BEA has not given further details regarding the circumstances of the 26 April incident.

But a NOTAM issued shortly afterwards notified of a 408m (1,338ft) displaced threshold for runway 09, reducing the available landing distance to 1,437m.

Philippine authorities have reportedly expressed concern over tall trees close to the threshold of the runway.
