A business aviation centre has opened at Moscow's Domodedovo Airport. The centre is operated jointly by corporate aircraft service and maintenance company AVCOM, with the airport's leading aircraft operator East Line Group.
AVCOM, which has a fleet of about 12 British Aerospace 125-700s, Dassault Falcon 20 and Falcon 2000 business jets, was the first to open a business aviation centre at Sheremetyevo, the main Moscow international airport.
AVCOM claims, however, that with lower traffic numbers, the new centre at Domodedovo will offer a faster service for corporate aircraft. Last year, it says, around 3,500 business aviation movements were recorded in the Moscow area, the bulk handled by the "over crowded" Sheremetyevo.
Domodedovo Airport is nearly 40km (25 miles) south of Moscow. The airport has two runways which, it is estimated, can cope with up to 140 flights an hour. Domodedovo handles about 56% of cargo arriving in Moscow. It plans to expand its business aviation services to compensate for the decrease in passenger traffic since the fall of the Soviet Union.
