Cessna has selected Garmin G1000 integrated avionics for its 182 Skylane and 206 Stationair piston-single families. The package, featuring two 265mm (10.4in) liquid-crystal displays, will be available as a factory-installed option beginning in the second quarter of next year.

The G1000 has already been selected for Cessna's Citation Mustang entry-level jet, as well as Diamond's piston-powered DA40 and DA42, and makes the 182 and 206 competitive with the Avidyne Entegra-equipped Cirrus SR20/22 and Lancair Columbia 350/400.

In addition to primary flight and multifunction displays, the Garmin suite includes a solid-state attitude and heading reference system that can be aligned while the aircraft is moving, even in flight; digital air-data computer; dual radios, navigation receivers and GPS receivers; Mode S transponder with traffic information system; and datalink weather using the XM Satellite Radio network, which also provides in-flight entertainment.

The G1000 system will be offered as the Nav III option on the 182T, 206H and turbocharged T182T and T206H.

Introductory pricing of the G1000-equipped Skylane is $297,500, 12% less than a 182T with the current Honeywell Bendix/King Nav II option, while the Turbo Skylane with Nav III package will cost $25,000 more than a Nav II-equipped T182T. Cessna says dealers have placed orders for more than 300 G1000-equipped aircraft.

Garmin says the G1000 will be certificated on the Diamond DA40 by January next year, followed by the 182.
