CFE, which is a joint venture between AlliedSignal and General Electric, is studying potential growth and "lite" versions of its CFE738-1/2.

The lite version would cover the 24-27kN range, incorporating new lightweight materials, an advanced fan and a two-stage low-pressure turbine.

The growth CFE738 would offer 27-35kN, with extensive use of modern materials and a new fan design.

CFE738 development plans are dependent, however, on whether AlliedSignal decides to pursue further development of its own TFE731 engine instead, or form a strategic alliance to develop a new engine core.

Flicape of South Africa became the first airline to put the CFE738-powered Dassault Falcon 2000 corporate jet into service earlier this year.
