Climbing through 3,000ft (900m) after departing Opa-Locka, Florida heading to nearby Pompano Beach, the main entrance door of a Bombardier Challenger 601-3R (N207JB) business jet separated from the aircraft and fell to the ground. The crew declared an emergency and flew to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airport.
The incident involving a Medcp Aviation Challenger, took place on 23 May and is being investigated by the US National Transportation Safety Board and Bombardier. There were no passengers on board and the crew were uninjured. The manufacturer says the cause of the door separation is not yet known, and it has sent no advisories to operators of the type.
The door, with its airstair attached, fell on to a golf course but did not hit anyone.
