Belgium's regional government for the French-speaking Wallonia area has announced a €100 million ($107 million) expansion programme for Brussels South Charleroi Airport. Ryanair created a base at the airport in 2001, resulting in passenger numbers increasing eightfold to 1.8 million. Work will be finished in 2005 and will include a new 25,000m2 (270,000ft2) terminal building which will double capacity to 3 million passengers.
