The Chinese government has given approval for Taiwan's China Airlines (CAL) to buy 25% of Shanghai-based China Cargo Airlines for 375 million yuan ($45 million), representing the first time a Taiwanese airline has been sanctioned to buy into a Chinese carrier. China's ministry of commerce gave final approval to the acquisition on 14 April and the Taiwanese airline says it aims to complete the transaction at "the end of June". CAL says the deal will "enhance the competitiveness" of China Cargo and CAL.
