The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) is conducting ground rig tests of a small, twin-spool turbofan engine for use aboard business jets of six to eight passengers.

Revealed at Airshow China in Zhuhai last week, the Jiuzhai power plant will have "a moderate bypass ratio and a mixed exhaust nozzle", says AVIC.

"Going with a newly designed fan, booster and low pressure turbine, it is based on the core engine of five-kg mass flow developed by AVIC China Gas Turbine Establishment," says AVIC.

Maximum thrust for the new engine will not be less than 1,000kgf (2,200lbf).

A full-sized mockup of the Jiuzhai engine was displayed at the AVIC stand during the show.
