An Airbus A340-300 operated by China Eastern Airlines overran the runway on landing at Sydney's Kingsford Smith International Airport on 1 November. The four year old aircraft (B-2380) landed at 11.50h on the airport's north-south runway, and local press reports say the cockpit crew reported hydraulic problems prior to the over-run. The aircraft was carrying 190 passengers and crew, all of whom were evacuated safely. The Australian Transport Safety Board (ATSB) says the aircraft "lost directional control", swerving to the right and coming to rest with its nosegear resting in soft ground off the runway.
