Raduga revealed its new Kh-59MK air-to-surface missile at the MAKS 2001 Moscow air show in mid-August. A development of the Ovod-ME (Kh-59M/AS-18 Kazoo), the Kh-59MK has a new active-guidance radar that can detect a destroyer-size target at 25km (13nm), the company claims. The Kh-59MK also uses a higher thrust, lower specific fuel consumption Saturn engine which extends the weapon's range to 285km. The Kh-59MK weighs more than 930kg (2,050lb), is 5.7m (18.6ft) long, and carries a 320kg warhead. China, which is thought to be the first Kh-59MK customer, is using the missile to equip its Sukhoi Su-30MKKs.
