CHINA HAS ANNOUNCED the successful first flight of the improved Shenyang Aircraft (SAC) F-8 IIM Finback fighter, fitted with the Russian Phazotron Zhuk-8 II radar. The F-8IIM had originally been scheduled to fly at the end of 1995.

In addition to the new multi-mode pulse-Doppler Zhuk-8 II radar, the aircraft has been fitted with a new locally developed head-up display and inertial-navigation/global-positioning system (Flight International, 18-24 October 1995, P25).
