China United Airlines will complete its full transformation into a low-cost carrier at the end of the month.
The China Eastern Airlines subsidiary says that from 29 March, its aircraft will be configured with only super economy and economy seats. It will also be launching a brand new website.
The Beijing-based airline promises to offer tickets from as low as CNY8 ($1.28).
Early this year, China United also applied to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), seeking rights to operate internationally.
The carrier currently operates only domestic passenger and cargo services, and it is targeting to operate services within greater China, and also to neighbouring countries.
China Eastern last year decided to convert China United into a low-cost unit as the country’s regulator moves forward in its pledge to promote the development of low-cost carriers in the country.
Flightglobal’s data shows that China United operates a fleet of 31 Boeing 737s to 51 domestic destinations.
