Improvements in China's air safety record have been recognised in the 1997 Flight International Aerospace Industry Awards, with the "Personality of the Year" category being won by Shen Yuankang, the Civil Aviation of China's vice-minister of general administration. The winners for all 12 categories in the Awards scheme were announced at a gala evening held at the Le Meridien Montparnasse hotel in Paris on 16 June.
