Sir - Private owners have long made long-distance flights in De Havilland Chipmunks (Flight International, 14-20 May).
In the USA in 1983, three privately owned Chipmunks were flown from Alberta, Canada, to Clark County Airport, Indiana, USA. All of them were flown over a distance of 2,700km (1,455nm), making some 5,400km for the round trip. At the time, this was a record distance to attend a fly-in, by just three ordinary guys.
