US general aviation fractional-ownership operator PlaneSmart Aviation is to upgrade its Cirrus SR22s to the latest G3 Turbo model.
The turbo-normalised engine will increase speed and improve safety, says the Dallas, Texas-based company.
"We would have had turbo in our SR22-G2s, but turbo and air were not available together and in Texas you need air conditioning," says PlaneSmart, which manages five SR22s for 30 share owners. The G3 Turbo has a higher cruise speed - 200kt (370km/h) versus 175kt - a longer range, and can climb more easily over weather and mountains, PlaneSmart says.
PlaneSmart has bases in Austin and Dallas, and is adding locations in Houston and San Antonio and "points out west for early 2008", says the company.
