Cessna's charter and fractional ownership subsidiary CitationAir has added the Citation X business jet to its fleet for the first time.

Seven of the high-speed, midsize types have entered service and an a eighth will be added shortly bringing the CitationAir fleet to 81 business jets. The aircraft will be available through the company's Jet Access and Jet Card charter programmes.

Meanwhile, CitationAir senior vice-president Woody Harford says response to its PrivateConnect business-jet offering - launched last year in partnership with British Airways - has been "disappointing". The service allows BA's premium customers to access CitationAir's fleet for onward travel to destinations within the USA and other parts of the continent.

"There was a lot of interest in the beginning," says Harford. "We anticipated one flight a day, but we haven't hit that number. It is very difficult to sell private jet travel to people who haven't used these types of aircraft before. They just see the cost."
