Two top executives at Indonesian carrier Citilink have tendered their resignations, after a video of one of its pilots allegedly showing up for work drunk went viral.
The airline’s chief executive Albert Burhan and its operations director Hadinoto Soedigno resigned on 30 December, taking responsibility for the incident.
A Garuda Indonesia spokeswoman, however, tells FlightGlobal that the resignations must first be approved by the company’s board. The Garuda low-cost unit has not named a replacement for either position.
Citilink has also sacked the pilot, saying he “committed serious mistakes” and was unprofessional, ignoring safety and security procedures and potentially endangering passengers and crew onboard.
Indonesian media reports say passengers claimed the pilot spoke incoherently during an announcement before a flight from Surabaya to Jakarta on 28 December. Several passengers then demanded to disembark the aircraft on suspicion that the pilot was drunk, they add.
