A near-miss at London Heathrow Airport, UK is to be investigated by the Air Accident Investigation Branch, the National Air Traffic Services has confirmed. On 28 April, a British Airways Boeing 747 had been cleared to land on the runway on which a British Midland Airbus A321 had been cleared to take-off. Very late on the 747's approach, Heathrow tower realised there was a conflict and ordered the 747 to go around, which the pilot immediately did. The 747 missed the A321 only by about 100ft (30m) vertically.
