Horizons Technology is developing a computer-based system aimed at reducing the cost of maintaining US Marine Corps Bell AH-1W Cobra helicopters. San Diego, California-based Horizons says that the system will monitor the performance of 78 critical components which are known to have finite lives, with the aim of accurately predicting when the parts must be changed. A prototype is being designed under a $740,000 contract from US Naval Air Systems Command.
