Vance Coffman, chief executive of Lockheed Martin, will retire in August to be succeeded by president and chief operating officer Bob Stevens. Coffman plans to remain as chairman of the company until April 2005. Coffman has been with Lockheed and subsequently Lockheed Martin for 37 years, starting in Lockheed's Space Systems division in 1967 and becoming chief executive of the merged company in 1997 and chairman in 1998.
