Rockwell Collins has formed a new business unit to provide a wider range of avionics support services to commercial and military customers. Options to be offered by the new Collins Support Services (CSS) unit include the ability to pay by the operating hour for avionics support.

For the first time, CSS will offer repair services on non-Collins avionics, through partnerships with other overhaul providers. "We will guarantee the same level of support to customers [for Collins and other manufacturers' products]," says CSS general manager Harry Gregory.

"CSS will be the single point of contact, and will guarantee quality, turn time and provide a Collins warranty [on all avionics]," he says. The company will guarantee system availability and provide customers with a single monthly invoice for all avionics support services supplied.

The new unit will provide inventory management and parts distribution services, make overhauled equipment available and provide a greater range of exchange and leasing services. The company's inventory of new and used spares is being increased to support the expanded services, he says.

Gregory says that CSS' premier product is its programme enabling operators for pay for avionics support "by the hour". He says that this applies equally to the initial spares provisioning that accompanies a new aircraft and to existing inventories.
