Lockheed Martin is leading an effort to develop a single common electronic-arming device for a host of future tactical missiles. The research-and-development effort, backed by the US Army, is designed to reduce dramatically the cost of producing weaponry. Electronic safe, arm and fire devices keep missile warheads inactive until the weapon is at a safe distance from the launch platform.
