The two "specialist" players in the ultra-long-range corporate aircraft market flew in to Le Bourget claiming successes.

The Gulfstream V achieved a record crossing of the Atlantic clocking 6h 43min on the flight from Washington Dulles International Airport to Le Bourget, a distance of 6,327km (3,420nm).

Tye Global Express arrived from Wichita, Kansas, completing the longest flight to date in its test programme and taking 8h 28min to fly the 7,751km (4,185nm). This takes more than an hour off the milestone flight achieved by a Canadair 604 two years ago.

"We are not so worried about records which can be pretty meaningless," says Bombardier Aerospace president Bob Brown. "We achieved a routine flight. That was what we wanted."
