California-based flight instructor and raconteur Rod Machado recalls one time when he tried to introduce the student to correct radio procedures:
Student: "What do I say?"
Instructor: "Tell them you want to take-off"
Student: (using radio) "I want to take-off"
Instructor: "Let go of the button dummy!"
ATC: "Well...what do I say?"
ATC2: "Tell him he's cleared to take-off."
ATC: "You're cleared to take-off....what do I do now?"
ATC2: "Let go of the button dummy!"
