US Government moves to relax its arms-sales policy in Latin America is drawing fire from the US Congress, which is seeking to restore the sales restrictions. The Congress is urging the White House to reverse the new foreign-military-sales policy. In 1997, the White House eased the 20-year-old ban on the sale of advanced weaponry to the region, saying that it would consider each transaction on a "case-by-case" basis. The legislators are calling for a two-year moratorium on major arms purchases by Latin American states.
