The Electron Devices division of Litton has won a $5 million contract from Raytheon Systems to supply all travelling wave tubes used in the AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM). The award is the first phase in a four-year contract, worth more than $21 million, for approximately 3,500 tubes. The initial order is for 800 tubes with deliveries beginning in 1999 and running through to 2002. Litton's travelling wave tubes are used in the active radar seeker or "eyes" of the AMRAAM. Good signals

A consortium of more than 20 regional airlines has awarded AlliedSignal the contract to supply its Enhanced ACAS II (Airborne Collision Avoidance System) to a combined fleet of nearly 200 aircraft, making them compliant with upcoming region-specific mandates 30-seat plus seater aircraft to carry such equipment. The majority are European airlines. Pakistan International Airlines has also placed orders worth $3 million for Enhanced ACAS II for its entire fleet of Airbus A300 and Boeing 737 aircraft

New release

A new type of weapon release system, made by Alkan, has been selected by Saab/British Aerospace for its JAS39 Gripen aircraft. The Advanced Clean Gas Weapon Ejection System, which uses no pyrotechnics, is virtually maintenance-free. Combined with its unique hook lifting mechanism, it far exceeds the capabilities of traditional systems Alkan says.

Alkan also supplies a clean gas ejection system for the Dassault Rafale.

Plug and play

The LTN-92 ring laser gyro inertial navigation system, produced by the Aero Products division of Litton, has been selected by American International Airways, a Kitty Hawk company, for installation on seven Boeing 747s.

The LTN-92 units will meet new navigation regulations and increase dispatch reliability. Litton says the LTN-92 meets Required Navigation Performance (RNP)-10 for up to 10 hours without global positioning system augmentation and is "plug and play", which reduces installation, design and certification requirements for operators.

Three amigos

Three regional Latin America airlines have selected AlliedSignal's Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System and flight data and cockpit voice recorders in a deal worth more than $100 million. LanChile, the TACA Group of El Salvador and TAM of Brazil have selected the products for a combined fleet of 88 A320 family aircraft.
