Hamilton Sundstrand will supply a derivative of its Airbus A320 family auxiliary power unit (APU) for the US Air Force's C-5 Reliability Enhancement and Re-engining Programme under a Lockheed Martin contract worth over $110 million. The APS3400 APU will provide the power needed to start the re-engined C-5's General Electric CF6-80C2s. The French and German defence ministries have awarded an EADS/Thomson-CSF joint venture a €160 million ($135 million) contract to provide Next Generation Identification Friend-or-Foe equipment. Engineering Support Systems has received a $6 million contract to update 16 APQ-159(V)5 radars for US Navy Northrop F-5 adversary aircraft to extend their service lives to 2015. South Korea has placed its second follow-on order for ITT Avionics/Northrop Grumman ALQ-165 airborne self-protection jammers for its Lockheed Martin F-16C/Ds. Deliveries under the contract will continue until 2005. SGI has received an Aerojet contract to provide servers and graphics systems to power mobile satellite ground stations for the Space-Based Infrared System, the USAir Force's next-generation ballistic-missile early warning system. The US Air Force is to lease five C-37As (Gulfstream V) from the manufacturer in a 10-year, $477 million deal. The US Army has selected the Arrowhead sensor system to upgrade the Boeing AH-64D Apache. Team Apache Systems, a Boeing/Lockheed Martin joint venture, has received a $78.5 million development contract. BAE Systems Avionics' Terprom digital terrain system has been selected by Lockheed Martin Systems Integration as part of an upgrade of the Fairchild OA/A-10A Thunderbolt avionics system. Northrop Grumman subsidiary Logicon has received a one-year, $250,000 contract from the US Air Force Research Laboratory to investigate wireless information-network cyber defence.
