Radstone Technology of the UK has won a £9 million ($12.9 million) contract from Italy's Whitehead Alenia Sistemi Subacquei to supply rugged computers for the Common Acoustic Processor in the naval NHI NH90 helicopter. Radstone has also received a £2.35 million contract from BAE Systems to supply rugged PowerPC processors for the Eurofighter Defensive Aids Subsystem (DASS). Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Aircraft Integration Systems and Boeing North America have each received $30 million US Navy contracts for modifications to the Lockheed Martin P-3 Orion, EP-3E ARIES, S-3 Viking and ES-3 Shadow maritime patrol and electronic intelligence aircraft. Work will include design, development, manufacture, installation, removal and test of components, avionics and structures. Elbit Systems has received a $40 million contract from the Romanian defence ministry for additional services and equipment for the Lancer, a Mikoyan MiG-21 upgrade by Elbit with the Romanian company and IAR Brasov-built Puma helicopters which have also been upgraded by an Elbit-led team. The Italian air force has signed a C$110 million ($71.4 million) 20-year deal to join the Bombardier-led NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC). Formal contract signing follows last year's memorandum of understanding. Italian students started at NFTC last year and three students and three instructors will be sent to Canada each year. General Dynamics is to demonstrate radar, missile and laser threat-warning data fusion with other battlefield information to improve helicopter crew situation awareness under a $7.8 million US Army contract. GD will adapt its Quarterback data-fusion software. BAE Systems is upgrading up to 300 ALQ-144 infrared counter measures systems, primarily for US Marine Corps Bell AH-1 and UH-1 helicopters. under a contract worth up to $7 million.
