Lockheed Martin has won a $200 million contract to produce components for 12 Mitsubishi F-2 fighters, including aft fuselages, wing leading-edge flaps, left wing boxes, stores management systems and other avionics. Atlantis Systems of Toronto has received a C$3.8 million ($2.4 million) AgustaWestland contract to supply the cockpit procedures trainer, and cockpit emulation software for desktop training, for the Canadian Forces' CH-149 Cormorant search-and-rescue helicopter. The UK Ministry of Defence has told parliament that the estimated cost of upgrading BAE Systems/Boeing Harrier GR7/7As to GR9/9A standard will be £330 million ($470 million), "of which 75% relates to routine maintenance and modification work". GE Aircraft Engines will work on interchangeability between its F136 alternate propulsion system for the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter and Pratt & Whitney's F135 under a $14.3 million US Navy contract. Meanwhile, Pratt & Whitney is to perform international commonality trade studies related to the F135 under a $12.7 million US Navy contract. Raytheon will ground-test an all-weather active Ka-band radar seeker using a micro-electromechanical system (MEMS)-based electronically scanned array antenna under a $10.3 million contract from the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency's Low-Cost Cruise Missile Defence programme. Boeing is accelerating production of over 12,200 Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) guidance kits for the US Air Force and Navy under a $12.4 million order to be completed in October. Boeing is also to produce 228 JDAM guidance kits for Israel under a $5.1 million US foreign military sales contract. The Malaysian army has confirmed a deal for MBDA Jernas surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems (Flight International, 9-15 April). The deal is worth £220 million ($316 million). It has also signed a $48 million deal for the KBM Igla (SA-16/18) man-portable SAM.
