A Convair 580A air tanker on a training flight crashed on 14 May in Saskatchewan, Canada, killing one of the two pilots and injuring two others. Investigators have yet to determine the cause of the crash which happened about a mile from the La Ronge firefighting training centre The aircraft was one of four recently refurbished types delivered to the Saskatchewan government in the last month. The governments says it acquired the aircraft based on their exemplary safety record.
