Paris special49
On the eve of what promises to be one of the most exciting, and stormy, Paris shows for years, our bumper issue includes an analysis of the row over Airbus subsidies and what effect it could have on transatlantic trade in aerospace. As that dispute rumbles on, Airbus and Boeing are both gearing up for a set-to in the mid-size market as the 787 prepares to do battle with the A350. We look at progress on both aircraft. Further down the line, both manufacturers are quietly devising replacements for their A320 and 737 workhorses. We take a peak at what might be on offer to airlines. There is a cutaway drawing and technical description of the world's first fly-by-wire business jet, the Dassault Falcon 7X, and an update on plans to make supersonic business travel a reality this decade. Also pushing the boundaries of technology, contenders are lining up to be first to offer commercial sub-orbital flights. How close is space tourism to reality? We examine where Europe will find aeronautical research funds, and how its industry intends to break into the unmanned air vehicle market. We also look at how Alenia and EADS are pumped-up for an assault on the military tanker and transport market.
