Aer Lingus: Aer Lingus is cutting operations by 25%. The airline expects to lose in the region of IR£60-70 million ($50-60 million) this year, compared with a previous IR£30 million estimate.

Air France: The carrier has announced a hiring freeze and is accelerating its fleet retirement programme. Eight Airbus A310-300's and five Boeing 747s will go by January 2002.

Alitalia: The Italian flag carrier is to layoff 2,500 employees-around 13% of the workforce.

British Airways: BA is scaling back its operations by 10%, with 20 aircraft being taken out of service. Staff cuts amount to 7,000, although this includes 1,800 already announced prior to 11 September.

KLM: Capacity is being cut by 15%.

Lufthansa: Plans to order up to 15 Airbus A380's and Boeing 747-400s are dropped and 24 aircraft are grounded.

Sabena: The Belgian carrier's chairman says the airline faces collapse unless unions agree to implement the management's business plan immediately.

Swissair: The Swiss carrier is cutting its long-haul fleet by 25%. Job losses are expected, while 3,000 staff have been laid off at catering division Gate Gourment.

SAS: The carrier cut its profit forecast by 25% even before the attack.
