Crossair expects its board to make a decision on a substantial aircraft order to replace the airline's 12 Boeing MD-80s when it meets in mid-December, following the successful negotiation of a new five-year collective working agreement with pilots. The choice will be between the Airbus A320 and Boeing Next Generation 737 families.

The SAirGroup-owned regional says the new terms for its pilots will be phased in by the end of next year, and will provide for salary increases of 16-40% and an improvement in working conditions.

The loss-making airline had warned that future aircraft orders were at risk unless the long-running pilot dispute was resolved, as it grapples with recent increases in fuel prices and higher costs resulting from the strength of the US dollar.
